We provided quantity surveying services for this new retirement village for the Dominican Sisters at Springfield Convent and School in Wynberg. Transforming a once inward-looking section of the historic grounds into a home connected to the school’s daily life. An existing stone cottage forms the core of a spine that climbs the slope through three linked buildings, adapting the original structure and adding two new buildings, arranged around a series of courtyards opening toward the school.
As Professional Quantity Surveyors, our role covered cost planning and budget management for a project that salvaged existing vegetation and building materials before construction began, and balanced heritage sensitivity with the practical needs of an aging community, including pellet fireplace heating, north facing windows, and good cross ventilation throughout the frail care rooms. A small chapel with cast glass windows by artist Abraham Leroux anchors the home as a place built for a religious order, without losing sight of budget or programme.
